Fridge Repair

A refrigerator is one of the few appliances in your home that runs around the clock for 365 days a year. It is very rarely switched off otherwise your milk will most likely taste sour in the morning. Therefore it is quite remarkable that they are able to work for such periods of time without breaking down constantly.

That said, it can be a repair that is very expensive if your fridge does break down. Not only will you be faced with a huge bill by the engineers who repair your fridge, but you may have to replace all that lost food that had to be thrown away.

Refrigerator gasket

A refrigerator gasket is the seal that surrounds the door of your fridge. It prevents any cool air generated by the fridge escaping. This prevents a drop in temperature inside your fridge, but also doesn’t waste energy as the fridge tries extra hard to keep a constant temperature.

You can cut the length required after buying a one size fits all gasket. Simply unclip or unscrew the old gasket and carefully remove. Place the new gasket at the top of the door and work down the sides so its in position around the door. Make sure the gasket lies flat with no bumps or creases before screwing or clipping the gasket in place.

Servicing internal components

A thermostat control controls how cool the temperature is inside your fridge. To replace should it become faulty, switch off your fridge at the power source. Remove the thermostat by unscrewing it from its position and disconnect the wires.

To insert a new thermostat, simply reverse the instruction by connecting the wires at the back of the thermostat and screw back into position inside your fridge.

Temperature control can sometimes mean that a faulty thermostat isn’t the problem. It tends to be because of a blocked fan if the fridge is warm.

An evaporator fan runs to ensure the entire fridge is cool by circulating the air. A bent or broken blade may be the cause. If the blades are bent try to bend them back with a pair of pliers after the fridge has been switched off and the fan stops spinning. If there is a jam for the fan, be sure to switch the fridge off before trying to free it. Should any of the problems still persist after, call a professional service person who will be more qualified to tackle the problem.
